State seeks land for guest house at Tripura

Chief Minister Okram ibobi Singh has reportedly entrusted Tripura-based socio-cultural organisation namely Lamyanba to approach Government of Tripura for allotting land to facilitate construction of a Manipur Guest House in that State.
In connection with the land procurement initiative O Ibobi has also handed over an official letter to the organisation for further conveyance to the Tripura Government, said Lamyanba general secretary Kshetrimayum Madhabi Singh while talking to newspersons at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound today.
Confiding that the CM's letter would be handed over to his Tripura counterpart soon after the Lamyanba delegation return to Tripura, Madhabi explained that a guest house is very much needed as visitors from Manipur not only endure inconvenience in getting accommodation but also face food problems.

Taking into account such hardships, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Ibobi in 2008 urging him to take up relevant steps for acquisition of land to construct a guest house in Tripura, recounted the general secretary.
Regretting that the first missive had failed to evoke positive response from the Government of Manipur, he also maintained that Lam-yanba was disheartened when a second reminder handed to the CM in 2010 also failed to convince the Govt.Undeterred by the setbacks, a joint Manipuri delegation from Tripura, including Lamyanba func- tionaries called on the Chief Minister on April 17 and reapprised the matter which elicited a positive response with the CM resulting to the latter handing an official letter to the joint delegation for further conveyance to his Tripura counterpart, confided Madhabi.
he also informed that the Chief Minister was urged to take the initiative for revival of the Manipur handloom House in Tripura, which was established in 1985 at Banmalipur area.
Madhabi said the joint delegation also proposed to the Government on the need for setting up a Manipur Information Centre in Agartala, where a similar facility of West Bengal Government exists along with doing the needful for opening a branch of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy in the Tripura State capital to facilitate Manipuris staying there get acquainted/familiar to traditional Manipuri art and culture.
