Imphal, August 20 2020:
People in Manipur see BJP as a horse trading company or a chartered flight, according to Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president M Okendro.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here this afternoon in the presence of CLP leader O Ibobi and CWC member Gaikhangam, M Okendro asserted that BJP would see in the forthcoming by-election how much people love Congress party and how many dedicated Congress workers are there in the State.
Appealing to all the Congress workers not to be disheartened by the departure of some Congress MLAs from the party, Okendro remarked that those MLAs who have also resigned from the membership of Manipur Legislative Assembly betrayed the people of their respective Assembly segments in pursuit of their personal interest.
Out of the State Assembly's 60 seats, 13 seats represented by three BJP MLAs and 10 Congress MLAs are now lying vacant.
As such, the effective strength of the State Assembly has been reduced to 47 .
It's time to teach a befitting lesson to all those ex-MLAs who betrayed the people's mandate in exchange for personal benefits, asserted the MPCC president.
He then called upon all the party workers to show in the forthcoming by-election that there still many people in the State who have complete trust in Congress.
Out of the six Congress MLAs who recently quit the party and joined BJP, four had worn BJP caps as early as June/July, 2017.They wore BJP caps and scarves at Delhi yesterday afresh thereby projecting Congress party in wrong light to the people of the State as well as the BJP-led Government, Okendro said.
Claiming that BJP is known in the State as a horse trading company or chartered flight, he said that a major partner of the coalition Government came to Congress on June 17 and spilled out all their grievances.
They also brought a proposal to form a new Government in the State.
However, on the next day, the dissidents were taken to Delhi in a chartered flight and everyone knows what they did after they returned to Imphal.
It only showed that BJP has been running chartered flights and also horse trading company, he asserted.
Those ex-MLAs who abandoned their positions and responsibilities and flew to Delhi when Manipur is facing a very hard time on account of the COVID-19 pandemic are all fugitives, he continued.
Expressing surprise over admission of just five ex-MLAs into BJP out of six ex-MLAs taken to Delhi, Okendro asked as to why the ex-Congress MLA elected from Lilong AC was not adorned with BJP's scarf.
He went on ask if the particular ex-MLA was discriminated on religious ground.
By leaving out the ex-MLA who represented Lilong AC, BJP only exposed its sectarian and communal character, said the MPCC president.
All the six ex-MLAs are chairmen of the COVID committees of their respective Assembly segments.
But they abandoned all their responsibilities and left the people in a very miserable condition in pursuit of power and personal benefits, he continued.
Congress workers should never forget such selfish politicians and people of their respective Assembly segments would never forgive them, Okendro said.
He then appealed to all Congress workers and presidents of block and district level committees to help the people suffering due to COVID-19 without any MLA to share their woes.
Dismissing the claim of BJP National general secretary Ram Madhav that Congress conspired to topple the State's BJP-led Government, the MPCC president said that Congress always respects people's mandate.
He added that the present regime which was established through crooked and deceitful means would not last long.
