'TNL sports complex expected by Dec '15'

Imphal, December 19 2014 : The sports complex being constructed at Pakshi ground and Tangkhul Naga Long Ground in Ukhrul district are expected to be fully complete by December next year, stated Chief Minister O Ibobi during question hour in the State Assembly today.

Replying to a query put up by MLA Samuel Risom, Ibobi stated that the sports complex is being constructed by five contractors under the supervision of MDS.

So far Rs 366.66 lakh has been utilized in the construction work.

To another question raised by MLA Kh Joykisan, Ibobi informed the House that seven Kilograms of gold were used in gold-plating the dome of Shri Shri Govindaji Temple.

No outside contractor was engaged for the temple renovation work.

It was done by the construction committee of the Shri Shri Govindaji Temple Board.

The Government did not invest any fund in the temple board for the temple renovation work.

The temple board has around 50 paris of paddy fields.

Apart from the income earned from the paddy fields, there were monetary donations/contributions made by devotees.

It was from this collective fund that the temple was renovated including gold-plating of the dome, Ibobi elucidated.

Keishampat-Malom section of Tiddim road is being developed so that the 7 Kms long section is expanded to 38 metres in breadth.

The road development work was initiated in view of the crucial link it provides to Tulihal Airport apart from being a part of a National Highway, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said in response to another query put up by MLA Kh Joykisan.

The road development work also includes construction of new culverts.

As such, Rs 77 crore was not enough for the road development work.

Subsequently, the State Government has sent a DPR to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Even if the DPR is rejected by the Ministry, the State Government would carry on the road development work with its own fund, Dr Ratankumar stated.

The Government has agreed to augment Ukhrul district hospital and increase its in-patient capacity to 100 from the initial capacity of 50 beds, stated Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing in response to a question raised by MLA Samuel Risom.

The hospital construction work would be completed by the end of this year.

So far, Rs 2434.37 lakh has been spent on the construction work.

Forest Department did not give any permit or approval to quarrying rocks from hill slopes and crushing the same rocks to manufacture sand in Senapati and Ukhrul districts.

Altogether seven persons engaged in this mode of manufacturing sand have been pulled up along with machinery and vehicles, stated Forest and Environment Minister Th Debendra while replying to a query raised by MLA Th Shyamkumar.
