Imphal, November 19:
Describing the constitution of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act Review Committee by the central government as time consuming and intent on delaying justice, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has announced re-imposition of ban on Hindi text books and NCC activities in Manipur with immediate effect.
Stating that total scrapping of the repressive Act and not its review is the sole demand of the people of Manipur, a statement of the Lup issued by its co-ordinator Y Devadutta said that formation of the panel formation is nothing but denying basic human rights of the people for another six months - the deadline set for submission of the panels report.
Moreover, the time frame for the report submission can be interpreted as another six months during which the people have to endure security force brutalities under AFSPA, argued the statement.
As the Centre had failed to positively reciprocate to the Lups demand for complete repeal of the Act within the stipulated deadline (Nov 19) the Lup has no other alternative but to resume agitations till the aspirations of the people are fulfilled.
On reported revision of the AFSPA and replacement by a more humane law the Apunba Lup contended that the humane law is very dependable on the vision and mental frame of Government of India and has no connection with the desire of the people of Manipur.
