Imphal, March 19 2021:
Demanding justice in the death of young MBBS student Sanaton Athokpam, vendors of Lamlong Keithel staged a protest by ceasing work for a day, today.
The protest demonstration was organised by Lamlong Keithel Phambi Apunba Nupi Lup, and 'Justice for Athokpam'.
By the sideline of the demonstration, secretary of the Nupi Lup, P Echal stated that they strongly condemn the 'killing' of Sanaton who was an MBBS student mercilessly.
If students are not safe at education institutions, then who would want to send their children for learning, she asked and urged the Government to bring all culprits to book at the earliest.
She also warned that shielding the 'killers' by the Government or the authority would invite more protests.

The protesters there also demanded all concerned to make the autopsy report public, hand over the call records of Sanaton to his family and deliver the CCTV footage of RIMS hostel to the police.
The Union of Social Upliftment (USU), Khurai Lamlong Keithel has also urged the State Government and the RIMS authority to find the fact leading to the death of Sanaton Athokpam (22) on March 15 and deliver justice at the earliest.
USU is an apex body of Imphal East organisations.
In a statement issued today, USU opined that such sad incidents of 'homicides' keep happening in the State due to low rates of conviction.
The union also reminded the widespread protest triggered by the death of one girl student at her school boarding in 2019 .
Saying that no effort is seen from the Government as well as the RIMS authority to bring the truth of Sanaton death to light and that the case is likely to be taken as suicide, the union, however, asserted that the nature of his death is suspicious and the probability of it being a suicide is nil.
RIMS authority should be held accountable for Sanaton's death, it asserted and expressed disappointment with both the medical students union and the RIMS authority for remaining silent.
Asserting that the union smells a rat in the case, it appealed to the Government to do the needful and clear people's suspicion at the earliest.
Confirming that USU will support all movements taken up by 'Justice for Athokpam' in seeking justice for the deceased, the union added that the JAC concerned, USU, Khurai Apunba Nupi Lup and Khurai Lamlong Keithel Phambi Nupi Lup will launch stern agitations if the Government works against the wish of the people.
Sanaton Athokpam, S/o Tikendra of Khurai Thangjam Leikai was found hung to death in a suspicious manner on March 15 at his hostel room.
