Imphal, June 18 2020:
Congress party and its allies have sent a notice to the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretary demanding removal of the Speaker.
The notice signed by Congress MLA K Meghachandra and endorsed by 12 other MLAs said that they were constrained to raise the motion for Speaker Y Khemchand's removal because of his unconstitutional and illegal activities.
The Speaker himself fixed the next round of hearing with respect to the disqualification case of seven MLAs on June 22 but it was preponed to June 18 without giving any satisfactory reason, and the same was informed to Members through social media at only 11 pm yesterday.
The Speaker has been behaving in an authoritarian manner in total contradiction to the established practice and procedure of the House rooted in democratic principles, said the notice.
It then urged the Secretary to accept the notice for removal of the Speaker and insert the same in the list of business.
The MLAs who endorsed the notice with their own signatures include CLP leader O Ibobi, senior Congress leader Gaikhangam, Y Joykumar and Letpao Haokip.
