Imphal, March 18 2017:
All Manipur Muslim Organi-sations Coordinating Com- mittee (AMMOCOC) has decried DESAM's stand regarding Jiribam A/C independent MLA Asaab Uddin.
Speaking to media persons at Hafiz Hatta today, SM Jalal, president of the committee, said, "Around five organisations of different communities have stag- ed protest against DESAM's statement of March 14 regarding boycotting the Jiribam A/C's successful independent candidate and threatening him from being a part of the Government formation process or from occupying a Ministerial berth.
They had also boycotted DESAM in Jiribam area and even demanded the student body to take back its statement within 24 hours" .
"AMMOCOC and its constitutional bodies also strongly condemn DESAM's statement", he said adding that the student body seemed oblivious of the geographical history and ethnical history of Jiribam.
He further asked why DESAM was riled up about the ethnicity of Asaab Uddin now instead of banning him from contesting the polls before the 11th Assembly election.
Jalal said that Asaab Uddin's family had settled in Manipur before 1906 and urged DESAM to thoroughly investigate his history before pointing fingers with half baked knowledge.
"Md Naushad, the great grandfather of Asaab Uddin migrated from Sonapur, Cachar to Sonapur, Jiribam.
Asaab's grandfather was a two-time Pradhan of Sonapur Gram Panchayat and Asaab Uddin's father, Toofan Ali passed his class X exam from Jiribam and completed his graduation from Maharaja Bodhachandra College after staying at Sagolband and held a post at Manipur Government's Education Department and is currently retired", he said.
"Asaab himself is also a two-time Pradhan of Sonapur Gram Panchayat and boycotting a successful candidate whom the people of Jiribam chose is hurtful to the sentiment of the minority community", he added.
He said that AMMOCOC and its constituent bodies will not accept such kinds of biased and divisional conduct and added that the committee, its constituent bodies and all its affiliates would not participate in the people's convention to be organised tomorrow by DESAM.
He further appealed to the Muslim community not to participate in the said event.
Jalal pointed out that the committee and the Muslim community as a whole have faith that Chief Minister Biren would surely induct the lone representative of the minority, Asaab Uddin into the Cabinet.
If he is not appointed as a Cabinet Minister, AMMOCOC and its constituent bodies would take up action against the BJP Government, he added.
