Two withdraw nomination papers

Imphal, February 18 2017:
Altogether two candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers from the first phase of the ensuing 11th State Legislative Assembly election to be held on March 4, reducing the total number of candidates for the first phase to 168 .
The two candidates who withdrew their nomination papers today are Md Salam Khan and Shah Ayajuddin both Independent candidates from 6-Keirao Assembly Constituency.
They submitted withdrawal report of their nomination papers to the concerned Returning Officer (RO) .
A total of 170 candidates had submitted their nomination papers to the concerned ROs during the scrutiny held on February 16 last.
Meanwhile, K Meghachandra, INC candidate from 32-Wangkhem Assembly Constituency raised objection to his opponent K Jadu, LJP candidate during the scrutiny of nomination papers held yesterday for the second phase election .
The scrutiny was again held today during which the concerned RO accepted nomination paper filed by K Jadu as K Meghachandra failed to produce proofs in support of his objection.
Nomination papers of 102 candidates for the second phase election have been accepted by the concerned ROs so far.
