Imphal, July 17 2016:
JAC against the detention of 21 Muslim students at Imphal airport staged a sit-in-protest at Lilong bazar yesterday.
The protesters held placards that read, 'CISF and MCPCR must respect Muslim students', 'we condemn intentional torture instead of showing respect to the identity of Islam' and 'compensate the students' .
In a statement, the JAC said that a memorandum containing a five-point charter of demand had been submitted to the Chief Minister.
Copies of the memorandum had also been forwarded to the National Commission for Minorities and Manipur State Minority Commission, the JAC said.
It further said that the matter has been informed to National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, New Delhi as well.
The JAC demanded that the students be compensated and action be taken against those who detained the students.
It also demanded the individuals and organisations concerned to apologise to the parents of the students for the inconvenience caused to them.
Students and representatives of Pangal Students Organisation, Popular Front of India and All India Tanzim Insaf took part at the protest.
