Imphal, July 16:
The Naga Youth Federation (NYF), Senapati district has given a call for a total bandh of national highways-39 from midnight of July 17 to midnight of July 18.The bandh call was given as a mark of protest against the announcement by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee that the ceasefire agreement between the Centre and the NSCN (IM) would be reviewed.
The NYF said, in a statement, that the assurance by the Prime Minister and Home Minister that any issue arising out of the ceasefire extension is an allergic for the Nagas, who are cherishing the dream of finding an honorable, peaceful and political solution out of the unlimited territorial ceasefire.
It opposed the proposed rally from valley to the Naga areas.
The Naga Students Federation (NSF), Kohima also took strong exception to the move to take out rallies and processions into Naga inhabited areas from Imphal.
In a statement the NSF said the move to hold rallies against the ceasefire extension in Nagas while the Nagas are demanding peace in their areas is a demonstration of ill-will towards the Nagas.
The statement said the NSF is constrained to make this statement since many appeals made to the Meiteis to understand the Naga issue and to have a cordial relationship have gone on deaf ears.
