The anti-ceasefire extension agitation is continuing unabated in the state as students and youths took out series of rallies today while men, women and students continued to stage peaceful sit-in-protests.
Nearly 5000 auto-rickshaws were taken out today in a spectacular protest rally along the major streets in Imphal city areas against the proposed ceasefire extension to Manipur.
the rally, which was organized as a part of UCM-sponsored series of democratic agitation, was taken out from ThAU ground and covered streets of Watham Leirak, Sana Keithel, RIMS Road, Uripok, Naoremthong, Tera, Khagempalli, Keishamthong, Moirangkhom, Singjamei, Kongba, Ayangpali Road, Porompat, Lamlong Bazar, Dingku Road and returned to the ThAU ground after one and half hour.
The rally was followed by a public meeting at the ThAU ground.
The meeting, participated by the UCM leaders, vehemently demanded immediate withdrawal of ceasefire from Manipur.
According to police sources, about 40 youths carried out a motor cycle rally against the ceasefire extension to Manipur today from Yaiskul Jamnasthan to Canchipur while about 200 persons carried out a cycle rally from Sagolband to Wangkhei Ayangpali today against the ceasefire extension.
In Bishnupur district, about 500 persons took out a cycle rally from Nambol and proceeded upto Ningthoukhong and then return to Nambol demanding withdrawal of ceasefire extension, police sources said.
In Mayang Imphal, a mass protest rally participated by around 6000 people, was taken out today.
On the other hand, wide and peaceful sit-in-demonstrations were reported today in several places of valley.
