Landslide Relief Committee warns of intense stir

Tengnoupal Sub-Division Landslide Relief Committee Thursday warned of intense agitation if the State Government fails to take a concrete decision on reopening of Tengnoupal-Sangshak road.
The decision was taken in a joint meeting of Tengnoupal Sub-Division Landslide Relief Committee and 31 Village Chiefs of Sita Area at Phalbung Village on Thursday.
During the meeting presided by Mk Mothil Maring, Chairman Tengnoupal Sub-Division Landslide Relief Committee, it was resolved to approach the State Government including the local MLA, ADC Members and the Deputy Commissioner for reconnecting the washed away portion of Tengnoupal-Sangshak road which was the only lifeline of the area at the earliest.

Further, the meeting also unanimously resolved to launch an intense form of agitations if the State Government fails to take a concrete decision on or before August 30 for reopening the road.
Later on, a team of the Relief Committee along with media persons inspected the portion of the road in between Phalbung and Chehlep junction.
Speaking to the media persons, spokesperson of the Relief Committee Lhunkhomang Haokip said that the villagers of 31 Villages of Sita Area were reeling under severe hardship due to massive landslide which washed away the portion of Tengnoupal-Sangshak road in between Phalbung and Chehlep junction.
Since then, the livelihoods of many villagers were affected as the road connectivity was totally cut off by the recent landslide, he added.
Secretary of the Relief Committee L Thangboi Mate also said that the Tengnoupal-Sangshak road is the only lifeline of the villagers of the area.
But the recent landslide washed away a portion of the road measuring about 1 kms at a place near Phalbung and Chehlep which is 8 kilometers away from the Imphal-Moreh National Highway 102 .
While appealing the local MLA, ADC Members and DC Chandel to take personal interest in constructing an alternative road for the washed away portion, Secretary of the Committee also warned that it will launch an intense stir if the State Government fails to response positively on or before August 30 .
