New Delhi, August 13:
Continuing their efforts for withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing and State Minister Th Devendra Singh today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and briefed him about the situation in the state.
Emerging from the meeting, Keishing told reporters that they "pleaded" the case of the Manipur Government, which had yesterday withdrawn the Act from Imphal and Greater Imphal on a trial basis.
"It is a test case for us and it can be a tactical move because this Act is not permanent but a temporary measure," he said.
Keishing said no one wanted the controversial Act to remain permanently but the "situation has to be created1 so that it goes".
Despite the Manipur Government's move, agitation continued in the state today demanding withdrawal of the Act from the entire state.
