Imphal, June 10 2016 :
While urging the State Govt to immediately release the arrested members of Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), the BJP State unit has appealed to the KSA to call off its proposed 48 hours bandh slated to begin from 5 pm of June 11 .
Addressing media persons today at its office located at Keishampat Nityapat Chuthek, senior party leader Nimaichand Luwang said that it is the role of the Govt to check adulteration of salt or other items.
Since the Govt has failed to discharge its duty, the KSA pulled up the businessmen who were found indulging in such illegal business.
Now that voices have been raised demanding the release of the KSA members from different quarters along with launching of different forms of agitation they should be released, Nimaichand said.
The KSA has also called a State-wide bandh from 5 pm of tomorrow.
Besides causing immense hardship to the people, frequent bandh and blockade have badly affected the economy of the State, he pointed out.
As such, the BJP leader urged the State to release the arrested KSA members at the earliest while at the same time appealing the students' body to call off its proposed bandh.
Nimaichand further urged all concerned to stop resorting to unannounced blocking of roads while also urging all concerned to launch peaceful and democratic agitation.
It may be mentioned that the five members of KSA were arrested on May 27 for pulling up two non-Manipuri businessmen for allegedly adulterating salt.
