Imphal, July 08:
At least four Manipuri students and a Delhi police sub inspector were injured in a late night clash near the New Delhi Manipur Bhavan, reports said.
The police apparently lathi-charged the students after the latter, apparently dissatisfied with the Prime Minister's promise to review the ceasefire agreement, demonstrated and shouted slogans near the Manipur Bhavan at Sardar Patel Marg.
The students were reportedly angry that the Prime Minister's statement did not specify a time within which the ceasefire agreement would be reviewed, and that it did not bear his signature.
They reportedly shouted slogans denouncing the statement as well as the MLA and MPs of the state, declaring that they did not recognize the legislators as representatives of the people.
The injured students reportedly include the president of the Manipur Students Association, Delhi.
Earlier this evening, before the meeting with the Prime Minister, students also prevented the MLAs and MPs from proceeding for over an hour.
Union minister of state for home, ID Swami, who came to the Bhavan to meet the Manipur legislators, was also prevented from leaving.
Meanwhile, the Former Manipur chief minister and senior Samata Party leader Radhabinod Koijam today welcomed the Centre's decision to review the cease fire extension agreement with NSCN (I-M) and appealed to the people of the state to shun violence, according to PTI.
We feel that the assurance of the Prime Minister will be received well by the people of Manipur.
With this assurance, we are hopeful that peace and normalcy will return, Koijam told Star news.
On behalf of state's MPs and MLAs, he also appealed to the people of Manipur to shun violence.
