Imphal, May 08 2013:
A team of surgeons of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI) would conduct a medical camp in Myanmar's Monywa during which a target is being set to cover 100 Myanmarese chil-dren having deformities of the cleft and palate, said SHRI Managing Director Dr Kh Palin.
Informing that the cleft/palate surgery camp would be organised on the sidelines of the upcoming business summit of North East India and Myanmar from May 26 till 28 at Monywa and Mandalay, Dr Palin said that formal invitations have been received by private medical centre from the Myanmar Government as well as the Indian Consulate General in myanmar.
Chief Minister O ibobi Singh along with some of his ministerial colleagues and top Government officials are supposed to attend the said business summit as a part of the ongoing process to enhance bilateral ties between Manipur and its immediate international neighbour, with specific focus on promoting trade and commerce.
Describing the upcoming event as historic, Dr Palin said as SHRI is looking forward to contribute its mite under the Smile Train Project in surgically correcting cleft and palate deformities of the Myanmarese children he along with 16 staff members would conduct the camp.
The SHRI medical team comprising of surgeons, plastic surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses would leave Imphal on May 22, said the managing director adding that operations would be conducted at Monywa.
To facilitate smooth conduct of the operation, the indian Consulate General in Myanmar Dr Madan Mohan Chhetri has not only identified 100 Myanmarese children but also arranged three operation theatres for the purpose, he maintained.
It is pertinent to mention that taking into account many Myanmar nationals preferring medical treatment at the private medical centre for the last few years, both the Central and state Governments are keen to provide 'visa-on-arrival' facility to citizens of the neighbouring country.
During the upcoming visit Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh is scheduled to have talks with his Saigang Division counter-part and other Myanmar ministers/officials.
The CM is also likely to meet Manipuri natives staying in Myanmar during his visit.
The Government of Manipur has already approved intimation from the Myanmar Government to provide 2/3 megawatt of power supply to Tamu town, which is under Saigang Division.
