UNLF holds 9th general assembly

The proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) held its 9th quadrennial general assembly from February 18 to 22 .
The general assembly was opened with offering of tributes to all the revolutionaries who had laid down their lives in the course of the liberation movement, according to a statement issued by the outfit's Department of Publicity, Media Coordinator Th Charairongba.
Deliberation on the 'National People's Democratic Revolution' and strategies to make it successful was the main highlight of the general assembly which is held after every four years since 1984 .
The general assembly also amended the party's constitution as well as the general programme in line with the changed situation.
After the outgoing Central Committee gave their report and the same was approved by the general assembly, a new central committee was elected.
Newly elected members of the central committee are Kh Pambei (Chairman), Ch Thanil (General Secretary and Publicity in-charge), I Tonsana (Secretary of Finance), N Nongden (Secretary of Health and Family Welfare), Th Sidabamapu (Secretary of External and Regional Affairs), S Nongdol (Secretary of Organisation) and S Pankhei (Secretary of Operation and Projects) .
The 9th general assembly also elected Colonel Ng Pamheiba as MPA's Chief of Army Staff and Major Th Ningtamba as Vice Chief of Army Staff.
The newly elected Chairman and Central Committee members pledged to execute the general programme drawn up by the general assembly for the next four years, promote unity within the party and abide by the party's secrecy.
