Imphal, September 04, 2009:
President of the Manipur People's Party (MPP), Dr Nimaichand Luwang, has asserted that institution of a Judicial Inquiry into the july 23 BT road incident would not serve its purpose as Okram Ibobi Singh is still the Chief Minister.

As O ibobi is yet to yield to the public demand to resign and instead continues to hold the home portfolio, it is unlikely that the outcome of the investigation would be in line with the expectation of the general public, said the MPP leader while addressing the gathering at a protest demonstration staged at the Party office near Imphal Pologround today.
Recounting that the statement of the Chief Minister in the Assembly regarding the incident, had been negated with visual images by Tehelka, Dr Nimaichand opined that for the sake of justice and transparency, O ibobi Singh should have resigned till completion of the inquiry.
Further calling upon all concerned to appear before the Inquiry Commission without any apprehension or inhibition, he suggested that statements of the eye witnesses would be of immense help to the outcome of the investigation.
The MPP president further demanded that the general public should neither be kept in the dark when the inquiry process is completed nor when the report is submitted.
Referring to the proposed exercise for recruitment of State forces, he asserted that under a specific policy, for which the Centre is more than ready to provide requisite financial and material support to the State Government, efforts are being made to strengthen the police force so that there is continuous bloodshed in Manipur.
In sustaining the tirade against the Chief Minister and terming O Ibobi Singh as an individual tarnishing the image of all politicians, he said the MPP would not relent from its agitation demanding resignation of the CM.
Former president Dr L Chandramani Singh, who is at present MPP advisor, said as O Ibobi Singh is also the Home Minister of the SPF Government, he (CM) ought to shoulder responsibility for the July 23 massacre.
The former Deputy Chief Minister also opined that as the public have lost faith, O ibobi Singh should honour the public demand and step down.
Several other MPP leaders and functionaries also spoke at the occasion.
