Poppy plantations razed to the ground at Kangpokpi

Altogether 17.5 acre of poppy plantations were destroyed at different villages of Kangpokpi district today.
While 2.5 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed at Tolthang, near M Ngamneh, Saikul Sub-Division, another 15 acres of such plantation was destroyed at Natjang and Molkon hill range.
Kangpokpi Forests Division reportedly carried out the destruction of illegal poppy cultivation in the hill ranges of Tolthang near M Ngamneh, Saikul Sub-Division today.
According to the Divisional Forest Officer, Kangpokpi Forests Division, N Ganesh, the destruction drive was carried out under the supervision of the District Magistrate.
FIR and PORs will be filed against the poppy cultivators, he added.

He continued that as a part of the War on Drugs campaign, the Division has been carrying out destruction drive of poppy since November 2022 and poppy plantations have been destroyed at 36 sites under the Division.
He also pointed out that a total of 350.75 Ha of area under poppy cultivation including 62 Ha inside Reserved Forest, 206.3 Ha inside Protected Forest, and 81.43 Ha under Unclassed Forest has been cleared till date.
He said that poppy cultivation is a serious threat not only to society but also to the environment.
