If education system fails, society will sink: Education Minister

Education Minister S Rajen Singh said that a society will sink if education system of the society is diseased.
He was speaking on the 19th foundation day of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur, DESAM, held at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, JNMDA, today.
He said that with a view to promote education sector particularly in the State, the State Government launched 'School Fagathansi Mission' under which infrastructure and buildings of selected Government schools in different parts of the State have been improved and upgraded to some extent during the recent months and regular inspection visits to Government schools and colleges is being conducted, said a statement issued by DIPR.

Citing reasons for the downfall of Government schools, Rajen said that regular Headmasters and Principals should be in place.
Beautification of buildings and improvement of infrastructure is also necessary so that students and guardians can be attracted.
To control staff and impart quality education is the responsibility of the head of the institute while keeping the school building attractive and providing adequate infrastructure is the duty of the Government, he added.
He said that depending on the availability of funds for the Education Department, the Government has issued work orders for renovation and providing infrastructure to selected schools and colleges on priority basis.
Teaching and non-teaching staff of schools and colleges will be recruited soon in order to meet the requirement, he added.
National Education Policy, NEP, has also been introduced to bring quality education in the country.
A task force has also been constituted for successful implementation of NEP in the State.
A mega conference will also be organized to discuss the prospects of the National Education Policy with reference to the State of Manipur, he added.
Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba Award was presented to Thokchom Memcha Devi, Principal, Paramount Paradise Academy, Sangaiprou as a part of the occasion.
The Minister also appealed to all sections of the society to cooperate with the initiatives of the Government aimed at improving the education sector.
Commissioner (Higher & Technical Education), M Harekrishna, RK Tharaksana, president, WASEDEV; Longjam Ratan, president, HERICON; L Romesh, founder president, DESAM and N Edison, president, DESAM also shared the dais.
