Imphal, August 31 2012:
While lauding the special drive being launched by the police under the supervision of Home Minister Gaikhangam against illegal migrants, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has stated that it would be assisting the Home Department in identifying illegal migrants.
The Committee has also stated that implementation of Inner Line Permit System is the only solution to the problem at hand.
Addressing a press meet at the office of FREINDS at Keishampat, Convener of the Committee Mutum Churamani pointed out that Assam is today facing a serious threat in its peace and tranquility due to uncontrolled influx of migrants.
Many innocent lives have been lost in the ongoing turmoil in Assam.
There is high possibility of similar incidents taking place in the state in the near future if the state government does not put in place a proper mechanism to curb influx of illegal migrants.
Crackdown on illegal migrants being launched by the state police is a good step.
So, people of the state should extend their cooperation to the police., he said, while suggesting that the government should also conduct similar drives in the hill districts where many illegal migrants from Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal have settled.
