Imphal, January 29 2015 :
Condemning the illegal confinement of drivers, handyman and labourer in strongest term, the All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State Committee (AITUC) and All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Worker Union (AMRTDMWU) Thursday demanded the "immediate and unconditional release" release of Driver Md.Inyuk Khan, assistant driver Md.Abdul Latif, handyman and three labourers abducted on January 20 near Kohima, Nagaland.
They were on a truck plying between Guwahati and Imphal.
According to a press note, they were held by NSCN (K) men.
The unions expressed dismay on the continuous harassment of daily wage-earners especially on the National Highways.
Recalling the several promises made by different individuals including the Prime Minister on the constitution of National Highway Protection Force, the two unions questioned the delay in deployment of the force.
The two unions also warned that if initiatives are not taken up by the central and state governments for the safe release of the drivers and others, they will resort to own course of action.
