Bishnupur, June 26 2018:
Five girl students were injured when a portion of plaster of the school roof gave way and fell on them at Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School around 12.40 pm today.
According to the Principal P Memthoi Devi, the incident occurred while the students were attending the class despite the bad condition of the building with wet walls and leaky roof.
The injured students were eighth graders of the school.
They were admitted to Bishnupur District Hospital by the school staff and were been discharged, she added.
Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School houses students from class VI to class XII and has a total strength of 700 students.
In the last 3/4 years, the school has produced number of first divisioners in Class X examination conducted by BOSEM.
However, the building which was constructed just a few years ago started falling apart with water leaking through the roof in the last one year, she stated.
She complained that the school had repeatedly written to the authority concerned to conduct repairs but the officials had turned a blind eye to their request.
