Mani Girls' College 'Drug Free College'

Targeting the adolescent youth and students in the college for primary prevention of drug abuse and alcoholism, a massive awareness and sensitization programme on "Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse and declaration of Drug Free College" was held at the Seminar Hall of Waikhom Mani Girls' College, Thoubal Okram today.
The programme jointly organised by the DSWO and NMBC Thoubal along with the NCC and 3 NSS Units of Waikhom Mani Girls' College was participated by 78 students and teachers, said a statement of DLC NMBC Thoubal.
It was attended by the College Principal, Dr O Ibeton Devi; Head of Department of Political Science, Naorem Jyotinkumar Singh; NMBC member, Yumnam Laksman Singh and Anthropology Department Head, K Sadananda Singh as presidium members.
During the programme, the efforts made by Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India to make Thoubal district free from intoxicants, drugs and alcoholism were categorically pointed out by Yumnam Laksman Singh, it added.
Awareness and education alone is not sufficient without maintaining a positive attitude to take a firm decision of not using drugs.
Those who are already a victim of drug addiction, must be referred to the Hospital and Rehabilitation Centres for detoxification, counselling and rehabilitation process.
Drug addiction is a treatable disease, he added.
K Sadananda Singh also reiterated the role played by the Thoubal District Branch of Indian Red Cross Society in conducting awareness programmes, organised by the NMBC under the Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal district.
Naorem Jyotinkumar cautioned the youth and students to not indulge in drug and alcohol abuse, it added.
He also administered the 'Drug Free Pledge' in which all participating students and teachers joined hands in the true spirit of avoiding intoxicating drugs of all forms.
Later, the College Principal declared the Waikhom Mani Girls' College as 'Drug Free College' with immediate effect.
Further, the NSS Programme Officers of Unit I, II and III jointly formed the 'Students Club' to enforce drug prevention activities in the college campus.
