Process on to recruit college principals

Imphal, June 23 2022:
In order to bring a cohesive educational environment in all government educational institutes of the state, the department of higher and technical education is taking up numerous steps under the guidance of education minister Th Basanta and chief minister N Biren.
In a press statement, deputy secretary (higher and technical education) informed that the education minister has been taking pro-active measures to mitigate various issues of the department including meeting various stakeholders of education departments, CSOs and officials of the department.
One such meeting was held on Monday at the directorate of University & Higher Education, during which director and principals including in-charge principals were present.
All the issues relating to higher education were discussed in detail.
Besides, steps have been taken up as a way forward to the implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020 to fill up various vacancies in the department.
It further informed that recruitment process of 190 Assistant Professors for various subjects on contractual basis only till the posts are regularly filled through MPSC is nearing completion and has been referred to department of personnel as per the required procedure for declaration of result.
In order to meet the shortage of teaching staff, .steps have been taken up to fill 450 assistant professors through the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC).
Details relating to financial implications, identification/categorisation of subjects, category-wise reservation,are being worked out to place it before the Cabinet.
Recruitment of 182 Group C & D posts on contractual basis has been taken up and referred to department of personnel as per the required procedure.
Recruitment of 257 teaching & non-teaching posts of Dhanamanjuri University has been taken up and is being processed for approval to declare the results.
Similarly, process has already been initiated for recruitment of 22 regular principals of government colleges and the department is currently preparing the requirements for sending requisition to MPSC after placing before the state cabinet for approval.
The department had, in the past few years, taken up the process for recruitment of 25 regular principals for government colleges through MPSC twice.
However, due to non-availability of eligible teachers, as per the UGC Guidelines, to hold the post of principals, all the requisitioned posts could not be filled up.
For better administration of colleges, the government has already given the charge of principals in some colleges to newly promoted professors, who are at par with the regular principals in terms of eligibility.
In furtherance of a move towards the improvement of higher education in the state, the department has been actively motivating, taking up various steps for accreditation of all government colleges by NAAC, which is a requirement for receiving grants from various funding agencies.
So far, seven colleges have been accredited and steps also have been taken up for NAAC accreditation of the remaining colleges, the statement added.
