Imphal, June 23 2011:
Police today broke open the administrative block of the RIMS blocked by the non-teaching staff of the institution.
The non-teaching staff of the institution under RIMS Non-teaching Employees Welfare Association locked the administrative block demanding clearance of their pending salaries of a month.
Around 10 am today, the block was locked by the non-teaching staff but a team of Lamphel PS led by OC Ingocha forced to open the three main office chambers of the blocks to resume normal working in the block around noon.
The non-teaching staff on stir alleged that they opted to launch the protest as director Dr Shekarjit had failed to keep his assurance given on May 13 that the pending salary for the month of May would be payable by June 20 .
RIMS Director, Dr Sekherjit was out of station.
He is in New Delhi after taking a 10 day leave and will resume duty after June 25 .
In the absence of the director, Prof Gyaneshwor, director in-charge convened a meeting with the representatives of the agitating employees and an agreement to suspend the stir was reached.
In the meeting the director in-charge clarified that the delay in payment of salaries was due to the non-release of funds from the Centre.
However, the funds have now been released and the authority is trying to disburse the salaries.
Today's stir of the non-teaching staff did not affect the normal OPD and casualty service.
