PUO, RCWS accuse JAC of abetting Pongringlong violence

Pongringjang United Organization (PUO) of Imphal Valley has strongly condemned the Joint Action Committee (JAC) over the Pongringlong village incident.
While strongly condemning the JAC and "their team members' criminal, inhuman, unlawful and violent act" on June 17 amidst the imposition of 144 CrPC by the magistrates of Kangpokpi and Noney, PUO, in a release, stated that JAC crossed over to Pongringlong (Charoipandongba) village from Charoichakotlong Part II and burnt down 5 houses belonging to Lanlimlung Panmei, Pouthonlung Gangmei, Hothui Kamei and Sajianlung Daimei, and Aroma English School owned by Lanlimlung Panmei.
The association also named owners of 5 vehicles, which were burnt down in the incident - Disinrei Daimei (Tata DI), Adim Gangmei (Ford Figo), Lanlimlung Panmei (Bolero M2), Lanlimlung Panmei (school van) and Gailungpou Daimei (Swift car), adding that a grocery shop each of Gaiduanlung Panmei and Gail-ianglung Gangmei were also dismantled.
It also accused the JAC of kidnapping two innocent people, Pousinlung Panmei, s/o Lanlimlung Panmei, and Gaithuanjang Daimei, s/o Jaguanglung Daimei, who were beaten black and blue allegedly in the presence of the police, who were enforcing the 144 CrPC at Charoichakotlong Part II, Noney district.
PUO then said that despite the gravity of the crime perpetrated by the JAC against the villagers of Pongringlong village and an FIR being lodged at the police station concerned, all the accused/ perpetrators still remain scot free.
"This is purely dereliction of duty on the part of state machinery/police which is intolerable and unacceptable both in the legal purview and in the customary practices.
Therefore, the government and the CSOs should not shirk their duty and responsibility of taking up befitting action against the perpetrators...so that such violent acts do not recur in the future upon the Pongringlong village," it added.
Rongmei Catholic Women Society (RCWS) Imphal Valley also condemned the burning of houses, vehicles of Pongringlong Charoipandongba village and the kidnapping and beating of two persons of the said village.
A release by its general secretary Lujai Golmei said that the JAC members of Jessie Kamei of Charoichakotlong Part II in Tupul sub-division of Noney district incited the violence in the presence of the Noney district police, despite promulgation of 144 CrPC in the area by both Noney and Kangpokpi district administrations since June 17.It said "the crime carried out by the JAC and its members upon the innocent peoples of the Pongringlong village is so unfortunate and the properties destroyed are highly condemned by the RCWS.
Therefore, the government and the CSOs should look into the matter and deliver the justice at the earliest so that such violence acts do not occur again in the future" .
