MI employees calls off strike

Imphal, June 18 2013:
The cease work strike launched by All Manipur Minor Irrigation Department Employees Association from June 10 to press various demands has been called off following an understanding with the State Government today.
A meeting in this regard was held at the office of Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra, who is in-charge of Minor Irrigation (MI) today with the striking employees.
Besides, Meghachandra, Principal Secretary (MI) Akhilesh Jha, Additional Secretary (MI) Gopen Meetei and Chief Engineer (MI) Shyambabu were present in the meeting from the side of the State Government while S Sanjit, President of All Manipur Minor Irrigation Department Employees Association; its General Secretary H Baleshwar; Assistant General Secretary, T Priyobrata and Treasurer N Ingocha were present on behalf of the Association.
Soon after the meeting, Parliamentary Secretary Meghachandra announced to media persons that the strike of the Minor Irrigation employees has been called off with immediate effect following a consensus reached.
He further informed that the due salaries of MI employees would be paid off for four months initially and the remaining would be cleared after consultation with the Chief Minister.
President of the Association Ksh Dijamani said that if the State Government fails to put the assurance given into action by July 31, the strike would be resumed.
The demands of the Association include payment of due salaries of the work charge and muster roll employees of MI for the year 2012-13 and 2013-14; regularisation of work charge and muster roll employees and to provide all the facilities under the Labour Law to the work charge and muster roll employees.
