Lui-Ngai-Ni, the seed sowing festival of the Nagas, was celebrated by the State Level Lui-Ngai-Ni 2015 Organizing Committee under the theme "Sowing the Seed of Peace and Prosperity" at Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Chingmeirong here on Sunday.
Traditional rituals marked the beginning of the celebration of the Lui-Ngai-Ni festival.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of State Level Lui-Ngai-Ni 2015 Organizing Committee Dr Xavier Pamei said that the Nagas are one of the culturally rich tribes of India.
They celebrate quite a number of festivals including the festival of cultivation, harvest and the feast of merit.
The songs and dances of the Nagas are the main attractions of these festivals, he noted.
MLAs Victor Keishing, Janghemlung Panmei and Z Kikhonbou, Chairman of Ukhrul ADC John Raleng, Chairman of Senapati ADC RS Henry, Chairman of ADC Tamenglong Humaliabou, member of Chandel ADC Thomas Maring, social activist Peter Maram and Advisor of Thangal Union Ambilon Anth attended the celebration.
Various cultural troupes from different Naga tribes presented their traditional songs and dances during the Lui-Ngai-Ni celebration.
