Imphal, July 14 2021:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has appealed to MOBC department to release scholarship given to different categories of students while the students are still learning as providing scholarship amount after students stopped learning would not only be meaningless but would also be anti-thesis to the government's objective.
AMSU information and publicity secretary Wangkheimayum Rimakan said in a statement that government has been providing scholarship to different categories of students to help them purchase books and other necessary items while learning but scholarship amount is seldom released in time till date.
Since the past many years, AMSU had been asking the MOBC department to release the scholarship amount to students in time and exerting pressure on authority concerned from time to time in this regard.
When discussed with officials of the department after scholarship amount was not released in time, it was found that the finance department held up the scholarship amount and hence could not be transferred into the bank accounts of students.
Moreover, there were many errors and lack of documents when registrations were done through online.
However, some students have been approved of scholarship after AMSU requested the department and the missing documents submitted, the statement pointed out, while assuring of extending help to students whose scholarship applications are yet to be approved.
Though there is no regular class during the first and the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, examinations and admissions are done and such practice adds to burden of the parents, particularly the daily wage earners in meeting educational expenses of their children, the AMSU statement said and appealed to government to release the scholarship amount in time.
