Imphal, March 13 2023:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday joined the party's nationwide protest against the alleged policy of 'crony capitalism' practiced by the Narendra Modi government in favour of big industrialists like Gautam Adani.
As in other states, MPCC leaders along with party workers staged a protest march from Congress Bhawan to Raj Bhavan, here.
Regarding the protest, MPCC senior spokesperson N Bhu-penda Meitei told media persons that statements made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi about Adani and the Hindenburg report in the Parhament were expunged.
Congress and other opposition parties demanded constitution of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate into relation between PM Modi and Adani but statements of both Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi were removed from both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.
This indicates that there is no democracy in the country, he said, while adding that democracy is under threat.
According to Bhupenda, there were numerous scams during the period of Prime Minister Narasimha Rao and Atal Behari Vajpayee and JPCs were formed to investigate the scams.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is silent when there is a demand for a JPC into the Adani case, he said and questions as to how Adani managed to tighten grip on the various ports, airports and projects in India and abroad.
He also said that people's money deposited in LIC and SBI were siphoned off to Adani by the government and accordingly a JPC should be formed to find out the truth.
What is the motive behind the silence and refusal of the PM to discuss the Adani issue, he questioned further.
