Need for awareness on crime against children & women mooted

Expressing deep concern over the rising crime against children and children including rape and murder, A Nabachandra, Chairperson of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) asserted that it is high time for giving effective awareness on the issue to the people to curb the menace.
He was attending as the chief guest of the 2nd Foundation Day celebration of MCPCR held at its office located at North AOC today.
A Nabachandra said that crime against children and women including rape and murder is continuing unabated in the State which is a serious matter while adding that MCPCR conducted spot visit whenever crime against children broke out to recommend punishment of culprits.

Stating that children are entitled to certain rights under Juvenile Justice Act, he maintained that the commission has the authority to inspect condition of children staying in observation home and children home.
Sexual harassment against children needs prompt intervention.
There have been instances where parents of victims of accused of such case reached an understanding instead of letting laws do it courses.
There are rules and regulations which should be followed in case of crime against juvenile, he pointed out.
Jaya Devi, member of MCPCR who was present at the occasion said that the commission was established in November of 2012 since then it has been taking up cases of crime against children and added that meetings were also held to ensure that justice is delivered to such case.
The foundation day celebration was also attended by Dr Ch Narendra, consultant of MCPCR as functional president.
