Five held with brown sugar, opium

Imphal, June 12 2022:
Jiribam district police on Sunday arrested three people identified as Sevanshon Sevan Raja (30), son of Thoiringam Sevan Raja; his brother Sevan Raja Athoi Chiru (23), both from Chawangkining village in Kangpokpi district and Debashish Paul (23), son of Sujit Paul of Salgangapar-II, Cachar, Assam but presently living at Senapati Old Road Yepao Colony with 1.073 kg of suspected brown sugar.
In a release, SP Jiribam Ksh Ravikumar Singh conveyed that as a part of on-going 'War on Drugs 2.0', a team of Jiribam police led by ASI A Krishna Sharma conducted a routine frisking and checking operation at Leingangpokpi village on Sunday.
At about 10 am, a silver coloured Maruti Alto 800 (MN 01 AG-0671) coming from Imphal side driven by Sevanshon Sevan Raja with the other two as passengers was stopped for checking.
On searching the vehicle, a package suspected to be brown sugar weighing 1.073 kg was seized from their possession and the trio was consequently arrested, it added.
The release also conveyed that in connection with the arrest and seizure, a case has been registered at Jiribam police station under ND&PS Act for further investigation.
Meanwhile, a team of Kakching district police commando arrested two people and recovered 945gm of opium from their possession during frisking and checking at Serou Lamkhai around 6.25pm Sunday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gigin alias Ginjalal Gante (20), son of Thangneilul Gangte of Khoubabung village, Churachandpur and Nehjamang (19) son of late Letkholun of Songgol village, Churachandpur district.
The two along with the seized contraband drug have been handed to Sugnu PS for further necessary investigation.
