World Suicide Prevention Day 2014 observed

Like in other parts of the globe, World Suicide Prevention Day 2014 under the theme 'Suicide Prevention: One World Connected' was observed by Department of Psychiatry, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS) at the conference hall of the institute here yesterday.
M Shyamo Singh, Director of JNIMS; Prof S Gyaneshwor Sharma, Head, Department of Psychiatry, JNIMS and Prof W Gopimohan, Medical Superintendent, JNIMS graced the observance function as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honor respectively.
Giving key note address on the occasion, Dr Nelson Loitongbam stated that reasons for suicide varies from one person to another but mainly people suffering from mental and several heath diseases like depression, personality disorder, schizophrenia, cancer, infection, neurological disorder, HIV/AIDS and those who are alcoholic are prone to attempting suicide.
He said that feeling of connectedness, socializing, discussing good & bad things with others and seeking timely medical treatment from mental problem are the effective ways to dealt with suicide.
He also pointed out that according to a report of World Health Organization (WHO), India recorded the highest number of suicide case in south-east Asian countries in the year 2012 .
