Imphal, August 08, 2014:
Zeliangrong Youth Front-Assam, Manipur (ZYF-AMN), All Zeliangrong Students Union (AZSU) and Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) have taken serious note over the failure of the authority of Don Bosco College, Maram to depute a responsible person for thrashing out a solution in connection with the murder attempt and assault case of Ringsanbou Newmai, a 5th semester student of History (Hon) in the Don Bosco College, Maram on July 28. In a joint statement issued by the publicity wing of the three Zeliangrong bodies, following expiry of the ultimatum served to Don Bosco College, Maram through its Principal for deputing competent authority or any responsible person in case of his inability to represent as well as to Hingba Mathew who is the Warden of Josephine Girls Hostel, Maram to appear at the ZYF office located at Ragailong, Imphal to thrash out a solution in connection with the case of assault on Ringsanbou Newmai, a 5th semester student of History (Hon) in Don Bosco College, Maram on 28th July, 2014, another joint meeting of ZYF, AZSU and ZSUM was held at the ZSUM Office, Namdunlong, Imphal today.
The ultimatum was served in pursuant of the resolution adopted during a joint meeting held on 4th August, 2014 at Namdunlong Youth Club, Imphal. The summon of the Zeliangrong organisations served to Don Bosco College and Warden of the hostel was to clarify and stated their position clear on why the incident of life attempt on student who is now undergoing medical treatment in JNIMS ICU was not reported to nearest police station? Is alcohol influence/inebriation appropriate ground to commit murder attempt?, the joint statement asked
The joint statement further said it was unfortunate that the Warden of Josephine Girls Hostel and the Don Bosco College authority instead of accepting the summon as positive step towards bringing understanding has now started levelling baseless allegation against the victim by stating that the warden has given 3 times warning and institution have given last warning to the victim.
Whether the warning has been intimated to his parents? Such allegation levelled on the victim while struggling for life is complete dishonour to his life rather the warden and the institution is seemingly waiting for the victim's death.
The warden and the institution may heap numerous allegations from now on.
The allegation of the warden and the institution raised when the victim's condition is deteriorating can be considered as pre-plan in collusion with the perpetrators.
The three Zeloangrong bodies pointed out that so far nine students belonging to Zeliangrong community have been beaten up since the commission of Maram Don Bosco College.
The victims are Joshua Pamei, B.Com; Martin Gangmei, BA; Elvis Kamei; Witoubou, B.Com; James Chawang; W.Philip, Ringsanbou Newmai, BA and one student each from Tamei and Tamah village.
The tolerable limit of Zeliangrong people has ran out as all the positive initiative in the hope of mutual respect and reasoning has out-rightly dishonoured as such the Zeliangrong people will continue to pursue till justice is delivered.
The confidence and trust of the victim family is with ZYF, AZSU and ZSUM as the victim being a student who is also a youth.
The ZYF, AZSU and ZSUM acknowledge and appreciate the concern and sentiment of all organisations expressing their dissatisfaction and condemnation over the incident also the solidarity extended to the victim but appeal not to publish any misleading information which may mislead the general public, the joint statement added.
