Imphal, July 06 2021:
Observing that people of the state consider chief minister N Biren as a hero for his initiative in combating Covid-19, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam observed that the people will appreciate the CM even more if he takes up heroic role in ensuring minor irrigation facilities as well.
The MLA along with officials of Minor Irrigation-3 including executive engineer S Bitamax and sub ordinate officer L Gibon inspected the River Lift Irrigation (RLI) schemes taken up in Langthabal AC on Tuesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection, MLA Shyam pointed out that agricultural activities in the state mainly depend on the seasonal rainfall.
Many agricultural lands could not begin cultivation due to lack of rainfall even though it is already first week of July.
Farmers of Langthabal are facing lots of inconveniences due to unavailability of water in their agricultural lands, he pointed out.
Even though there is lack of seasonal rainfall, farmers of Langthabal AC could cultivate crops by drawing water from Imphal River and Nambul River.
Several RLI schemes under minor irrigation department are being taken up in the two rivers flowing through Langthabal AC so as to provide irrigation facilities to the farmlands, he continued, while informing that only two out of the ten RLI schemes in the constituency are functional.
Around five schemes will be made operational within two three days, he affirmed.
Asserting that he as a local MLA will give his best to make sure that irrigation water is available for cultivation, Karam Shyam assured of providing fuel to the farmers.
Farmers of the constituency should also have the intention of cultivating crop, he stressed.
Informing that a meeting will be convened at Chajing Mairenkhong on Wednesday to discuss the problems faced by farmers, the MLA urged the farmers to highlight issues confronting them during the meeting.
Every problem faced by them will be solved using any means, he assured.
The MLA urged MI department to extend all possible help to the farmers and also exhorted the government to take a firm stand on helping the farmers.
The farmers should also take their responsibility seriously, he added.
Stating that the farmers who started cultivating crops should not cause hindrances to the efforts for providing irrigation facilities to other places, Shyam urged the farmers to have a sense of collective responsibility.
People should also know that if there is a problem then there is surely a solution to the problem, he added.
