Imphal, February 06 2020:
In the sustained efforts to uplift the standard of living of the local populace, Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), presented a rice mill to Shaibol village today.
Shaibol is a remote village located near the Indo-Myanmar border, far away from the main stream societies of Manipur.
Meeting routine requirement is a challenge for villagers of Shaibol as it is devoid ofbasic infrastructure to sustain livelihood.
Rice is cultivated extensively in Shaibol and forms a part of the staple diet of the locals.
Processing rice out of paddy is a herculean task for villagers as the grains have to be manually separated due to the absence of a rice mill.
The villagers were in possession of an old rice mill and it became non functional, which forced the villagers to buy rice from Myanmar, apart from undertaking manual processing of the rice.
The villagers approached Tengnoupal battalion to provide assistance for procurement of the rice mill, which was promptly accepted.
The rice mill was presented to the village chief of Shaibol on behalf of the Assam Rifles in the presence of other villagers.
Shaibol also celebrated its platinum jubilee of institution of Church in January this year and the village authorities had approached Tengnoupal battalion for providing assistance for the celebrations.
Tengnoupal battalion readily provided the requisite administrative support to the village authorities and actively participated in celebrations so as to imbibe the unique culture of Shaibol village.
Medical camps have also been conducted at Shaibol by Tengnoupal Battalion to provide primary health benefits to the villagers in the absence of Primary Health Centre.
The village chief, on behalf of all villagers, expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles for providing the rice mill, organising medical camp and rendering assistance.
