Imphal, July 04 2015 :
CADA has alleged that the State government is trying to do away Manipur Liquor Provision Act 1999 and import the Indian made foreign liquors.
The motive of the State government in earning revenue by exporting local brew and allowing to sale foreign liquor in the State is an unwelcome approach, stated CADA activists.
The organisation also flayed the State government for their irresponsibility in claiming during the current Assembly session that alcohol is abundantly available in the State.
Despite the fact that the State is under the Act, the declaration of abundant availability of alcohol by the government itself is a self declared inefficiency and violation of Act, claimed Yumnam Ratankumar president CADA.
He was speaking in a press conference at the head office of CADA Pureiromba Khongnang Makhong.
He also recalled that the Act was passed during the time of Chief Minister RK Ranbir after considering the harmful effects of alcohol abuse rising at an alarming rate during 1991.He further alleged that the present government is supporting the sale of alcohol with support from the low rung officials of the State government.
In 2002 the Act was amended and the sale of alcohol in five hills district of the State was allowed.
