Imphal, September 03 2021:
Unique Business Association Chandel (UBAC) has urged the state government to post a local as district forest officer (DFO), Chandel Forest Division, who will understand public's basic needs and most likely to be aware of their problems.
In a release, UBAC vice president Peipei lamented that the chief minister and the forest minister, instead of listening to the voice of people, sent a non-local officer as DFO Chandel Forest Division and now everyone can see the consequences.
The incumbent DFO Chandel Forest Division Kanthale Vijay Sahebrao and range forest officer S Robertson Singh were appointed recently.
As soon as they were appointed, instead of working for the development of the general public, they started disturbing the developmental works of the public, he alleged.
UBAC also contended that on August 31, the DFO Chandel stopped six vehicles of GR Company which is working on the construction of road between Pallel and Chandel.
The DFO subsequently charged their vehicles a sum of Rs 38,000 for lining his own pocket, despite company's request for negotiation between the two parties.
Official work should be in the office and not on the road or any other place, the vice president insisted, adding that such kind of officer should not be allowed to stay any longer in Chandel district.
UBAC further appealed to the government to accord importance to the public sentiment failing which it may be compelled to launch agitation.
