Imphal, February 03 2023:
Reminding chief minister N Biren Singh, who is the leader of the House that he was also a part of the government as minister during the 15 years of Congress rule in the state, opposition MLA K Ranjit has urged the chief minister to desist from playing blamegames.
MLA Ranjit was speaking in the state assembly while suggesting points to amend the motion of thanks of the address of the Governor made on the first day of the assembly session, which was brought up for adoption by the House on Friday.
Ranjit pointed out the need to address all the 60 MLAs as warriors of the "War on Drugs" as there could be nothing that cannot be achieved, including the destruction of poppy plantations, if all the 60 MLAs work together.
Maintaining that every MLA is well aware of what is happening in his/her respective constituencies, the MLA informed the House that only when all these 60 MLAs proceed forward sincerely as warriors of 'War on Drugs', there can be no area in the whole of Manipur where pop py could be planted ever again.
While informing the House that it is not the time to play blame-games where Congress accuses the BJP and vice versa, the opposition MLA pointed out that the leader of the House had been a part of the 15 years of the Congress government and both had been good mates.
On the mass cultivation of poppy in the state, the MLA said there are deforestation activities in almost all parts of the state because poppy plantation requires cutting down of trees.
The security forces have been trying their best to destroy poppy plantations in the state but it is not an easy job.
Therefore, the need of the hour is for the government to carry out satellite mapping and identify areas where poppies are planted and where they are planning to plant..
He also expressed surprise over the manner poppies are found cultivated in the hills of the state and said that Manipur could be totally wiped out if the trend continues.
The opposition MLA pointed out that new vehicles for the police personnel which are being provided at present seem to be only for the Imphal based and city based officers.
So, there is the need for allotting vehicles equipped with advanced communication gadgets for the police personnel deployed in far flung areas where there are no good roads.
This should have been included in the address of the Governor, in addition to mentioning about declaration of results of the various posts in different departments and appointment of judges of Manipur High Court.
The motion of thanks on the address of the Government was moved by health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan and seconded by minister Awangbow Newmai while opposition MLA K Meghachandra, Th Lokeshwar and K Ranjit pointed out the needs to amend the address.
