Imphal, September 29 2018:
ACOAM Lup Kangleipak has clarified that the statement issued by NERAMEC regarding GI registration of Chak-Hao has attempted to mislead the farmers of the State.
A press release issued by secretary, information and public relation of the association claimed that ACOAM Lup Kangleipak did not accuse NERAMEC but instead made the people aware of the facts.
It informed that NERAMEC filed the GI registration in December last year and the response was given by Geographical Indications Registry, India on August 31 this year in the form of an examination report which mentioned various details and information but NERAMEC failed to inform the people concerned about it.
It added that the report mentioned that the application needed to be listed by the association of producers NERAMEC failed to inform all the concerned parties regarding the application.
It alleged that viewing the examination report, the GI application sent by NERAMEC seems to be bent on implementing a market monopoly.
It also asked if the Chak-Hao farmers will know who are the companies buying their produce when NERAMEC auctions their rice.
ACOAM Lup also urged the MOVCD to properly monitor the whole process and also urged the Agriculture Department to look into the matter at the earliest.
