Imphal, November 28 2017:
The Lamphel Super Market Development Joint Action Committee has expressed disappointment over building a market solely for Mao vendors while cautioning that it would launch stringent agitations if the State Government tries to build it forcefully.
Speaking at a press meet held at the Manipur Press Club today, Convenor of the JAC, K Subhash said that the announcement made by the CM at the Cherry Blossom Festival , held at Kayinu Village, Senapati district, that a Mao Market will be constructed at Lamphel Super Market with a budget of Rs 1-2 crore rupees, is not acceptable.
He further said that when the JAC had gone to submit a memorandum to the CM, they were not allowed to meet him citing reasons that there was no appointment and the CM was busy.
However, when the CM himself was the spokesperson of the ruling party of the previous Government, he had said that the street vendors around the Imphal city will be allocated with proper spaces in the Lamphel Super Market, to keep the city neat and clean.
Moreover, MAHUD Minister, Th Shyamkumar had announced that a new market place will be built in the Lamphel Super Market complex also.
The convenor further stated that a market place for all communities should be built and not only one while adding that if the Government and the authority concerned try to build it forcefully, stringent agitations will be followed.
