All India Gramin Dak Sevak Union All Manipur Division NE Circle submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, through the Governor, demanding the PM to intervene in connection with the implementation of Gramin Dak Sevak committee report and regularisation of Gramin Dak Sevak and provide all necessary benefits like pension with due approval from the Central Cabinet at the earliest.
According to a source, the memorandum explained that the Gramin Dak Sevak are the backbone of the Department of Posts.
The postal functions rendered at the nook and corner villages of the country covering 75 percent of the population by the Gramin Dak Sevas are of high order and quality and almost every postal services like MGNREGS, Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI), old age pension, etc are provided in one or the other at the branch post offices manned by the Gramin Dak Sevak.
Th source explained that the Central Government set up a one man committee under the Chairmanship of Kamalesh Chandra, retired Postal Board member, to examine the conditions of service and other facilities of Gramin Dak Sevak.
Although the committee submitted its report to the Secretary, Department of Posts in November 24, 2016, the report has still not been considered and as such the union appealed to the PM to intervene regarding the matter at the earliest.
It also appealed the PM to take up necessary steps to regularise all Gramin Dak Sevak.
