Chaorel Houba organised with religious rituals
Minister Dingo happy to see increasing number of Sanamahi believers

The Mera Chaorel Houba ritual of Sanamahi religion was conducted with religious rituals at Lainingthou Sanamahi Laishang, Ufong Yumfam, Haying Khongbal On Monday.
Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB), Utra Shanglen and Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) jointly organised the event, which also marked the month-long Mera Thabum celebration.
The ritual began with a religious procession from Lainingthou Sanamahi Laishang up to Kangla led by titular king and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba.
Religious offerings and prayers were made at Kangla from where the holy water was brought to Lainingthou Sanamahi Laishang, where the main event was held.
Social welfare minister Heikham Dingo, MP Sanajaoba and LSTB vice-president & PDA chairman MLA Lourembam Rameshwar attended the main event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dingo highlighted that Mera Chaorel Houba is an important religious event of the Meetei community and it is good to see the number of followers of Sanamahi religion increasing day by day.
It shows how the people of Meetei community are realising the importance and re-embracing religion followed by their forefathers, he said and added that the BJP MLAs and ministers under the leadership of chief minister N Biren have been taking up several initiatives to promote the religion.
Earlier, in the morning, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that Mera Chaorel Houba is a religious event, which is celebrated jointly by the hills and valley dwellers since time immemorial.
He also expressed elation over large number of people participating in the event and stated such healthy response gives fresh hope of revival of the indigenous religion.
The MP also commended different religious bodies joining hands to organise the event and called for further endeavour to unite the religious bodies.
He also spoke on the significance of Mera Hou Chongba, which is celebrated on the full moon day of Meetei lunar month of Mera and emphasised on the necessity for unity, peaceful coexistence and strengthening the bond of brotherhood among people of different religions and communities for a stronger and prosperous Manipur.
