Imphal, September 25 2021:
Even as numerous intending candidates are vying for BJP ticket in almost all the assembly constituencies, especially in the valley areas; national leaders of the party are hopeful of winning no less than two-third of the total seats in the 2022 state assembly election.
As per held reports collected by this daily, the number of BJP ticket seekers is high and most of these intending candidates are already indulging in mudslinging and one-upmanship against one another in order to garner public support as well as impress the leaders.
Though the party leaders are hopeful of these intending candidates supporting the one candidate in their constituencies who gets party ticket, the reality is different from this ideal principle and it poses a major question on the political dream of BJP.
Recently, BJP Manipur in-charge Dr Sambit Patra met with some of these intending candidates one on one and spoke on their reason for choosing BJP, their election strategies for winning the election in order to understand the ground situation.
He also reportedly asked each one of them if they would support the party candidate if they were denied ticket.
Though it is obvious that they definitely responded in the affirmative to the question, it is not certain if they will uphold the same assurance since each one of them has been preparing for the election for a long time.
The situation is also clearly visible on the ground as these intending candidates are seen criticising one another and claiming their superior chances of getting the BJP ticket.
A BJP state leader confided to this daily that it is obvious for many intending candidates to run for the ticket of the ruling party but only one candidate with the highest potential and circumstances to win will get the party ticket in one assembly constituency.
There is no question of BJP losing the election if all those who are willing to join or support the party or intending candidates stick to the party.
However, the real question is whether the intending candidates who are denied party ticket would still support the party candidate, and this might become a hurdle in achieving the target, he observed.
On the other hand, BJP election in-charge for Manipur union minister Bhupendra Yadav during his recent visit met party leaders of the state.
After the meeting, he expressed confidence that the party will emerge victorious in the 2022 election considering how the party delivered its promise of a bandh and blockade-free state to the people of Manipur.
Expressing confidence that the party will win at least 40 seats in the 2022 election, he ruled out any possibilities of pre-poll alliance.
He also cited issuance of over 4 lakh health cards, improved electricity and road communication as well as boost in organic farming as the key factors that would ensure success of the party in the forthcoming election.
Regarding the chief ministerial candidate, Bhupendra Yadav had said that the decision lies with the parliamentary board of the party.
