Imphal, May 16 2023:
Janata Dal (United), Manipur has cautioned that the demand by 10 MLAs belonging to Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi tribes of Manipur for a 'separate administration' will have serious implication on unity and integrity of the state.
In a release, JD (U), Manipur president Ksh Biren said such de-mands are against the principle of co-existence among the people since the reign of kings for centuries and during the British rules.
Voicing resentment that the 10 MLAs have put the blame on the majority community for the recent communal violence while covering up atrocities committed by the other community and their role in the violence, Biren said: "We expect MLAs to be responsible in their outburst during delicate moments when tension is running high.
Any demand for a separate administration at the cost of disin-tegrating Manipur is not acceptable to all communities.
The said MLAs cannot represent only the voice of the communities they belong to." While pointing out that seven of the 10 MLAs include two cabinet ministers in the BJP-led govern-ment, he wondered that the BJP leadership is doing when its MLAs are plotting disintegration of Mani-pur and why the party is tolerating such acts of indiscipline.
Lambasting chief minister N Biren for remaining a silent spectator, the release stressed that the council of ministers are collectively responsi-ble, when any of the minister makes a mistake, it is imperative under the Parliamentary democracy for the council of ministers to own the responsibility.
JD (U) also appealed to all to forget and forgive the past mis-takes and work for restoring peace and harmony in Manipur, while demanding constitution of a high level enquiry commission to un-earth the root cause of violence and recommend measures to prevent recurrence of similar incidents in the future.
