Imphal, October 13 2021:
Asserting that the emerging trend of election will definitely lead to a dangerous situation in the near future, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam has called upon local youth clubs and the present generation to play major role in making election free and fair so that the public could choose candidates of their choice.
Langthabal Kendra Youth Committee felicitated the participants of the cycling campaign organised by Committee of People for Free and Fair Election at the end of the first leg of the campaign, which began from September 28, in a function held at Chajing Keithel on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, MLA Shyam observed that there are several changes in today's youth as compared to the past generation.
Youth can bring changes in the society and people of the state should support the campaign being carried out by educated youth, who see the bad things in the trending political situation and are spreading the message for a free and fair election.
Though all the candidates call for not making the election a festival, they do whatever is needed to win the election after assessing the voters and their desires.
However, following the whims of the public without caring for the repercussion and impact on the society is not the nature of a good leader/Instead, a good leader should guide the public to the right path and bring holistic changes towards development.
Distributing cash and other materials to woo voters cost huge unnecessary fund to the candidate and it automatically leads to corruption since the elected candidate will obviously try to accumulate as much wealth as needed to fight the next election, he said.
It is high time that candidates give up the idea of buy ing votes with cash.
Instead, everybody should support the clarion call of today's youth for a free and fair election so that the public could exercise their democratic rights freely to choose the right candidate.
Taking a peek Into the life, works and characters of the candidates could prove helpful in choosing the right candidate, he stressed.
While seeking public support in the next election, Karam Shyam assured of socio-economic development in Langthabal assembly constituency if he gets elected for another term.
Committee of People for Free and Fair Election convenor Rohan Philem said that they have covered 39 assembly constituencies in the valley area excluding Jiribam in the first leg of the campaign.
While they received overwhelming support in many parts of the state, there are also some areas that ridiculed their message and campaign.
He then appealed to the intending candidates to take the bold step for stopping corrupt practices in election and appealed to the public not to accept cash for votes in order to root out corruption and bring better governance in the state.
Later, the campaign team along with MLA Karam Shyam carried out an awareness tour in some areas of Langthabal assembly constituency.
