Nagaland polls Seven valid candidates withdraw candidature

Kohima, February 10 2018:
Seven valid candidates about to contest the Nagaland Assembly election withdrew their candidature on Friday.
Out of the seven candidates, six were Independent candidates while one represented the Indian National Congress (INC) .
In the scrutiny of 257 nomination papers on Thursday, 227 candidates were found valid.
After the withdrawal of the seven candidates, 220 valid candidates are now left to contest the election.
The last date of withdrawal of candidature is February 12, 2018.The 60-member Assembly is scheduled to go to polls on February 27, while the results are to be declared on March 3 .

House torched in election related violence : Election-related violence continued to be reported from Wokha as one house was reported torched at New Wokha village on February 9 .
According to the Wokha police, the house reportedly belonging to a relative of a JD (U) poll contender was set on fire at around 8.30 pm by unidentified persons.
The police said that Fire & Emergency Services personnel alongwith police rushed to the site of incident.
The fire was brought under control but the house was completely razed and there was no report of any human casualty, it added.
The police said that the identity of the perpetrator(s) could not be ascertained while adding that no FIR was received in connection to the incident.
