Taking serious note of the gathering of "5th All India Tibet support group" meeting held in Assam on November 2 and 3 last under the chairmanship of RK Khrimey of the conference organizing committee, the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) has asked why India is interfering in the internal affairs of China.
A press statement signed by ULFA (I) Chairman Dr Abhizeet Asom recalled that the outfit in the past too had issued statements against any Tibetan independence activity in Assam in the backdrop of Dalai Lama who never spoke out against the gross human rights violation in Assam by the Indian State over the last 25 years, let alone supporting the inherent Sovereignty Rights that Assam possesses.
"We are intrigues by Indian nationals supporting an Independent Tibet, as it is on record that in June 24, 2003 the then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee formally accepted Tibet being integral part of China.
If this is not sufficient, we can refer readers to the 17 Point Agreement of My 23 1951, Jawaharlal Nehru's statement in October 25, 1953, The Panchseel of 1954 that the Republic of India has been accepting Tibet as a part of China all along," said the statement.
The statement further said that "India's so called democracy is throttling Assam's rightful sovereignty claims with application of Armed Forces not acceding to the legitimate demand of an appropriate referendum on Assam's sovereignty question, readily agreed in decent democracies in resolving such issues." Despite Indian occupation of Nan Zang (South Tibet), Chins is trying to maintain status quo for the sake of peaceful coexistence with India, said the statement and while adding that the country "remains ambivalent on the plight of indigenous Assam, except occasional voicing by Chinese citizen in support of Assam's legitimate claim in print."
Reacting against Dr Lobsang Sangay's statement on November 2 last, who allegedly said that China being self-centered and as 'Nobody's Friend', the outfit's Chairman recollected one of his personal experience and said that "looking at the blazing sky over the Himalaya in November 20, 1962 evening across the Brahmaputra River and next morning Chinese People's Liberation Army not setting foot on Assam soil, my anxiety turned into amazement at Chinese respect towards Assam" .
"Since then I have been observing China closely and in my best judgment I have not seen any enmity towards Assam yet," added the statement.
The outfit also called the indigenous people of Assam to give peace a chance stating that the "watershed moment has arrived for indigenous Assam to give us the prompt for us to build that friendship with China with confidence" .
The statement further expressed the outfit's hope that China will prove Dr Sangay wrong and put forward the hand of friendship towards Assam without hesitation.
