Most popular tribal chief passes away

Regarded as one of the most popular chiefs/khullakpas of the tribal people in Manipur for his committed words and deeds, Thaitoungam Meiringmei passed away at his
Lamdan village residence in Churachandpur district today.
He was 94 and survived by his sons and grand children.
Many people from various places of Manipur including chiefs of the villages, leaders, and well wishers came to pay their homage and last respect to the departed soul during his funeral service at Lamtan village, according to a statement signed jointly by Pougangchung Meiringmei and Soihemba Meiringmei of Condolence Service Programme Committee.
Thaitoungam Meiringmei served as the village Chief for more than 40 long years.
He was the pioneering and founder leader of Lamtan Baptist Church.
Facilities for transport, communication, electricity, water supply, SDC Office, forestry, football ground and other developmental works brought to Lamdan village were to his credit, the statement said, adding that his demise was
not only the loss to his family but also to Zeliangrong people as a whole.
